Feikô is a Greek word that signifies “a like reproduction”. As the title of the work suggests, this imitation will remain as close in appearance to the original as possible. Emergency blankets, are gold-coloured and made of a metalcoated polyester. Protecting against extreme temperatures, these blankets are commonly used by first aid and rescue services to envelope people in distress.

Shrouded in a golden cloak, these individuals suddenly appear rich and noble; a clear contrast to the their vulnerable state. This material’s ability to evoke these two contradicting ideas has lead me to envision a project which synthesizes these contrasting notions and materialises them in a single object.
I have created a flat surface covered with gold that emulates an unfolded emergency blanket. As with the original blanket that is creased due to repeated folding employed for packaging, a grid of rectangles measuring 15 x 10 cm marks the surface. Feikô draws its formal attributes from minimal art, namely: its sober form, its repetition of a geometric figure, and its purity.
