The Marvellous Caves

In this video with its dreamlike title recorded during a visit to a cave in Algeria, Fayçal Baghriche invites us to assist a game of analogies proposed by the cave’s guide. In the strange space of the cave a screen on which one can project their imagination of the exterior world. Stalagmites and other forms transform into animals and architecture that echoes collective representations of the contemporary world. The guide’s force of persuasion destabilises our certainties and procures a sense that the history of the world has always been inscribe in rock and accessible to those who adventure into the cave’s depths.
